The HCG diet is popular among people who enter their first diets since it has been massively popularized, yet the data suggest that it turns out to be not always effective. What is actually the HCG? It stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin, which is a hormone produced in the bodies of pregnant women in the first several months of pregnancy. It was found that this hormone suppresses appetite and thus helps healthy people to fight obesity.
Typically, the weight loss from this diet varies between 400 up to 900 grams per day. Largely, it is achieved not thanks to the HCG supplement, but a very low calorie diet. In any case, however, you should consult your doctor if you have any health concerns (yet, this stands for every diet you are going to undertake). Besides, women should start this diet right after their period has ended or at least 10-12 days before the next period.

Essentials of the HCG Diet
The HCG diet consists of three phases:
The Loading Phase.
The first phase lasts just 2 days, and you have to start taking drops of HCG already at this point. At the same time, you should eat a lot of fatty foods and foods rich in carbohydrates. You may think that either I am wrong or you have read incorrectly, yet it must be so: you must start the diet with eating foods rich in carbohydrates and fats in the first two days. Otherwise, the diet will not work duly. So go ahead and get a great, tasty meal!
The Burning Phase.
This phase is the most difficult yet also a very important one. Prior to advancing to the stage itself, however, you should set your goal: how much weight you want to lose while sticking to this diet. The burning stage varies from 21 up to 42 days, yet it cannot be less than 21 days and more than 42 days. Even if you achieved your goal faster than in 21 days, you should keep on with a diet until the indicator of 21 days is reached. The same is true for the opposite: if you have not reached your goal yet reached the 42-day limit, you should put an end to the burning phase and proceed to the third phase. During the burning phase, you should follow the HCG diet plan (look at the meal plan lower), drink a lot of water, and take the HCG drops. In the final three days, you must cease taking your HCG drops!
The Maintenance Phase.
Now, the most extreme part of the diet is finished. You have to start adapting your body to a normal diet. Therefore during the maintenance phase, which lasts 3 weeks, you should avoid eating products that contain sugar and starches. At the end of this stabilization stage, you can reintroduce the products into your diet bit by bit. Keep weighing yourself in order to track your weight (you should do so every morning during the diet – exactly in the morning, since your weight will vary through a day). If you will gain more than a kilogram after you have reintroduced a certain meal, it is better to skip it.
The HCG Diet Meal Plan
It is important that during the second phase of the diet, you consume no more than 500 calories per day. In addition, you should consume only those products that are included in the list of approved foods. Actually, the list looks like the following:
|Shrimp||Celery Starches: Grissini or Melba toast||Strawberries||Garlic Sweet Basil|
|Fresh white fish||Green salad||Grapefruits||Thyme|
Keep in mind that you cannot ever, during the diet, consume (or use for preparing the allowed products) sauces, butter, or oil. Combinations of seasonings must be avoided as well, since they are likely to contain sugar.
Also, you can drink no more than a tablespoon of milk per day. Indeed, no sucralose or sugar can be consumed, yet some stevia or saccharin you are able to use in very limited quantities.
Given the fact that the HCG diet is a very low calorie one, your menu will be pretty tough at the diet’s second stage. Actually, it will look something like the following:
- Breakfast. Fresh or frozen strawberries or a coffee or a tea.
- Lunch. 100 grams of some of the approved proteins, 1 starch, 1 fruit, and 1 vegetable.
- Dinner. 100 grams of some of the approved proteins, 1 starch, 1 fruit, and 1 vegetable.
Once again, bear in mind that your daily calorie limit is just 500 calories during the Burning Phase.
What if I take two little apples instead of a normal one?
No matter what is the size of a fruit, you should adhere to the diet and take only one fruit.
Can’t I have even an egg during the second stage of the diet?
Well, you may eat a boiled, raw or poached egg very rarely. By the way, if you cannot eat meat (and thus most of the protein products allowed in this diet), then you should substitute it with eggs: three egg whites and a whole egg instead of 100 grams of meat.
Can’t I replace the meat with anything else except of eggs?
At times, you can also replace the 100 grams of meat with cottage cheese that was produced of skimmed milk (also 100 grams of it).
What about cosmetics and other beauty products? Can I use them?
Regarding lotions, powder and lipstick, you can use only those ones that do not contain fat and fatty substances. Other cosmetics than powder, eyebrow pencil, and lipsticks should be not used. Also, avoid taking any other medicines. Suntan oil is excluded, too. Yet, you are able to take aspirin and the pills for birth control. Though, you cannot receive a massage of any type.
