Even though the Lemonade Diet, also known as the Master Cleanse Diet, was developed in the far-away 1940s by Stanley Burroughs, it became popular only recently after Peter Glickman wrote about the diet in his book. Even though the primary goal of this diet is to detox one’s body, it will be also helpful in reducing one’s excess weight. In particular, Jared Leto, Naomi Campbell, and Robin Quivers lost many kilograms while sticking to this diet.
Nonetheless, you cannot take this diet on without considering the risks and taking into account the state of your health, and you should do this together with your nutritionist.

Essentials of the Lemonade Diet
It is important to make sure that it does not bear significant risks to your health, because, apart from the lemonade, you can only drink herbal laxative teas twice per day and take salt water baths. Given those conditions, you can consume no other products during the diet period. That is the reason why the diet is usually long no more than 10 days. Though there are doctors and sources that claim that the diet can be extended up to 40 days, if the state of health of the patient allows one to do so. And of course, there are different types of this diet. There are some meal plans for the Lemonade Diet that include other products, like a vegetable broth, too.
Once you have made up a schedule of the diet and assess how much weight you want to lose, start slowly removing the products from your menu 3 days before the start of the diet. Likewise, start reintroducing the foods little by little during the three days after the diet’s end.
In the night before the diet’s start, you should start drinking herbal laxative tea. In the morning, take a salt water bath. An important note: you cannot both drink the tea and take the bath. If you cannot take a bath at the moment, then opt to drink a tea. Otherwise, it is better to take a bath and not take a tea for a while. Also, try to keep the intervals between eating/drinking: do not eat too often or rarely. Also, do not eat too much.

- Purified or spring water of medium hotness;
- 1/10 of a tablespoon of cayenne pepper or the way it is up to you;
- 2 tablespoons of genuine maple syrup (do not confuse it with maple syrup flavored with sugar);
- 2 tablespoons of lemon or lime juice, which is approximately a half of the fruit.
Take a glass of 250-300 grams, fill it with the cayenne pepper, maple syrup, and juice, and fill it with the water. Whenever possible, strive to use only organic fruits.
How to Finish the Lemonade Diet
As it was mentioned above, you get three days in order to get back to your normal, ordinary diet once you are done with the Lemonade Diet. However, some people take several days more in order to recover completely. Here is an example how coming off the Lemonade Diet may look like:
Start getting off the diet with taking of 125 milliliters of fresh orange juice (squeezed) and combining it with the same amount of water. Drink it slowly, and if all is ok, repeat the procedure once again through the day.
Once again, drink a few glasses (125 ml) of orange juices during the day and dilute it with water, if you need so. In the evening, include a vegetable broth in your meal. For preparing that broth, you may use some of the following vegetables: dehydrated vegetables, cayenne powder, salt, beans, squash, legumes, potatoes, celery, parsley, onions, carrots, kale, turnip and its greens, beet and its tops. However, eat only a few little pieces of vegetables while drinking the broth.
In the morning, drink a glass of the orange juice. In the midday, eat the broth as well as some vegetables you wish. However, you still cannot eat and drink coffee, milk, tea, pastries, bread, eggs, fish, and meat. Prepare a vegetable soup for the supper.
Begin the day either with a lemon and maple syrup or with a glass of the orange juice. Prepare some of the nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits for your lunch, while leaving a salad and some fruits for the supper.
On this day, you should attempt to start eating all of the normal products, though stay away from heavy animal proteins, rice, coffee, tea, dairy, and junk food yet. If, after you have resumed the normal diet, you will feel some distress in your stomach, get back to the Lemonade Diet for a few days more. Once your body is ready for normal food, attempt to return to the normal diet once again.
